MASON CITY – A Mason City mom faced the scary prospect of her child not returning home after she allowed a man to take the kid to McDonald’s.
Police tell NIT that this woman – whom they did not name – allowed David Tosten Lennie, age 59 of Mason City, to take her 8-year-old child to McDonald’s at 11 PM on July 23. However, when Lennie didn’t immediately return, she reported the child missing to police at 2:36 AM. As police were at her home taking the missing persons report, Lennie pulled up near the house. The reporting party’s child was in the vehicle, unharmed. Officers checked the child and spoke to the driver about his whereabouts with the child. Officers suspected Lennie was under the influence and began field sobriety testing. He was soon placed under arrest for operating while intoxicated and child endangerment.
On October 27, Lennie pled guilty to both charges after an earlier not guilty plea. Court records show Lennie was sentenced to 2 days in jail and ordered to pay $1,956.50 in fines and court fees. He must also submit a DNA sample.
