MASON CITY – Authorities are investigating possible human remains found along a river in Mason City.

Mason City police say that on Thursday, March 11, a citizen located clothing and what they believed to be human bones on the shore of the Winnebago River near North Illinois Avenue in Mason City.

Officers responded to the scene and collated the bones and clothes found by the citizen and continued to search the area, finding additional bones.

Police say the clothing and bones were transported to the Iowa Medical Examiner in Ankeny for further investigation.
