MASON CITY – Dacota Witham of Mason City was reported to be alone with a dog named Kiara in his garage last year when she began yelping.
That’s the last time Kiara was seen or heard alive, police said last year, as they arrested Witham on a charge of animal torture. The dog’s mutilated body was later discovered in the bloody garage, stuffed in a dog food sack. He later took a plea deal to animal neglect causing death as well as child neglect (for leaving his 7-month-old daughter home alone) and domestic abuse assault.
Witham, age 28, was given probation, fines and sent to the Beje Clark halfway house for 6 months as punishment.
Now, Witham is accused of violating his probation. A warrant for his arrested was issued on October 12. As police closed in the next day, Witham said via social media, “I’m going to jail y’all.” Police found him at 2510 19th Street SW that afternoon and took him to jail, where ehe is being held on bond.
Witham must return to Beje Clark. He will face a probation revocation hearing on October 28 and could face up to a year in jail. Withal was already found guilty of violating his probation earlier this year in April and was given 120 days in jail.

History of beating women, leaves a baby home alone for hours, and to get revenge on his ex-gf for deciding to stop being his punching bag, he fed her dog an antifreeze laced steak, and when that didn’t kill the dog fast enough he stabbed it. Then told the gf he gave the dog away.
It’s only a matter of time before he kills again, question is will it be an animal, a defenseless child, a woman? He doesn’t have the testicular fortitude to take on a man, so the men of North IA are “safe”.

We need a state/national integrated photo registry of convicted animal abusers that all pet stores, breeders, shelters, rescuers, and veterinarians can access. (Everyone so you don’t give a pet to a known abuser!)
