MASON CITY – With no one to lifeguard, the Mason City pool won’t be open the next two days.
As summer winds down, the Mason City pool will be open just 6 more times. City officials said that Monday and Tuesday this week, the pool won’t be open “due to a lack of staff available”. Weather forecast calls for sunny skies and 70’s.
Mason City officials said that the pool will be open on August 26th until the last day August 31st. The Annual Doggie Dip is scheduled for that evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
The problem with a lack of staff has occurred already this season, forcing a closure. In addition, the pool opened late this season. It was supposed to open on May 25, but didn’t open until June 5 due to what city staff described as mostly financial reasons, such as paying for pool chemicals and staff during those 10 days; school letting out late in Mason City and what was described as “very cool” weather “to swim outside”.
Compounding issues, a “bad boiler” has routinely left water temps in the pool colder than they should be, leading many to complain.
