Iowa thief escapes pen, is caught in neighboring Illinois

FORT MADISON, IOWA – Prison officials in Iowa announced Sunday that the facility was on restricted movement as they searched for an escaped convict.

The Iowa State Penitentiary was on restricted movement due to an escape, Iowa prison officials said early Sunday. Offender Justin Kestner, age 25, was last seen at 1:30 AM during count, they said. He was discovered missing at the 4:45 AM count, Sunday.

All Law Enforcement agencies were notified, and a search ensued.

Later Sunday, Kestner was captured south of Geneseo, Illinois, penal officials said.

Kestner is serving a 10 year sentence from Woodbury County for two counts of Theft First Degree.
