OELWEIN – It’s not always a bright idea to allow a sex offender to spend time with your children, an Iowa woman has learned.
After a week long investigation, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office arrested Dillon John Sommerfelt, age 28 of Oelwein for Failure to comply with the sex offender registry and Brooke Renee Cormwell, age 26 also of Oelwein, for Child endangerment.
During the investigation by law enforcement, it was alleged that Cromwell was allowing Sommerfelt – who is on the sex offender registration – to go to the school and daycare provider and pick her children up. This act violated the registry restriction and endangered the children of Cromwell. Both were transported to the Fayette County Jail on May 15, 2015 and were booked in on the above charges; both charges are Aggravated Misdemeanors.
Cromwell was released on May 16, 2015 on a $1,800.00 bond and Sommerfelt was released that same day on a $5,000.00 bond. The Department of Human Services were also called in and took custody of the children for placement.
