NIACC’s Kaputin shatters own school long jump record

niacc_trojans_logoDES MOINES – NIACC sophomore Rellie Kaputin shattered her own school long jump record Friday afternoon at the Jim Duncan Invitational at Drake Stadium.

Kaputin won the women’s university/college division long jump with a leap of 5.91 meters (19 feet, 4 3/4 inches) breaking her own school record by more than two feet. She broker her own school record of 17-4 (5.28 meters) at the Central College Invitational on April 16, 2014.

Kaputin’s jump ranks third nationally among junior college women’s long jumpers. Iowa Central’s Destiny Carter is the national leader (19-10 3/4) and Iowa Western’s Allanah McCorkle ranks second (19-7).

Also for NIACC on Friday at the Jim Duncan Invitational, Luke Arrowood and Levi Meyer tied for 11th in the men’s university/college division with leaps of 1.78 meters. Jacob Waddle was 12th in the javelin with a toss of 37.15 meters and Ben Farhmann was 14th in the javelin (34.49 meters) and Jaime Zarate was 15th in the 5,000-meter run in 15 minutes, 55.98 seconds.
