Mason City domestic abuser sent to prison

MASON CITY – A man who caused serious injuries to his victim of domestic abuse was sent to prison on a five-year sentence.

Shawn Allyn Sheldon, age 40, pleaded guilty in March to third or subsequent domestic abuse assault, a class D felony. Mason City police officers had been dispatched to Gracious Estates, 777 Eisenhower Avenue, at about 9:16 PM on February 6, 2015, for a physical domestic. When officers arrived, an investigation was conducted, and Sheldon was arrested on multiple charges, including felony domestic abuse assault involving strangulation, enhanced felony domestic abuse assault, false imprisonment, and interference with official acts. As part of his plea deal, all the charges were dropped except the felony domestic abuse assault charge.

Judge Annette Boehlje sent Sheldon to prison for 5 years. He has already been sent to the Oakdale classification center in Coralville for processing. Sheldon must also pay $613.40 in restitution to his victim, who he seriously injured by biting her face.

Sheldon has numerous convictions and/or guilty pleas in violent domestic assault cases. He was last charged in Fayette county in 2008 and took a more lenient plea deal and spent over 50 days in jail and was ordered to pay the courts over $7,000. He has paid just $6.33 on that balance.
