MASON CITY – A large street fight in front of a popular Cultural Crescent night club led to the arrest of four persons.
According to Mason City police, officers responded to an emergency call about what they described as a “large disturbance” at the 000 block of North Delaware Avenue in Mason City at 2:00 AM. The area is between the east parking lot of Southbridge Mall and several businesses across the street.
“Numerous subjects were fighting in the street,” police said. Sources told NIT the subjects may have been drinking, and words were exchanged.
“A lot of profanities,” a woman said. “These people were drunk, and basically belligerent. It wasn’t pretty. I watched from a distance.”
Police arrived on the scene quickly, and an officer suffered an undisclosed injury while separating the subjects during the altercation.

I have to admit I was being cynical when I asked, “where is the cultural crescent?”
To have culture you have to have class. Downtown Mason City doesn’t have any class, therefore there can be no cultural crescent in downtown Mason City.

Where is a Cultural Crescent in Mason City? I see an address listed as the scene of the fight but there sure isn’t anything “cultural” about that area.

This is what you say when you have a large stretch of the city that you could probably bulldoze, and very few would care.
Yes and they are trying to do just that, if you venture near the 300 block or so of East State Street. The whole area looks like Baghdad. They are moving a bunch of water-damaged houses up a hill to replace houses that were only slightly crappier. That is Economic Development 101 in Mason City. Economic Development 201 is the other practice of helping businesses that are already here move across town.
@Matt-It is a damn shame. Those used to be fine single family homes when I went to High School up there. Then the Slum Lords came in and destroyed the homes and the neighborhood. It is happening all over town as less and less people are able to put together a down payment. Not all renters are bad,as a matter of fact some are better than the home owner. But, a good percentage of them just do not care. The yards have gone to pot, there is trash all over (we have that problem next to us.
Well you are right. The whole town is pretty much falling to pieces, except the part with the fake plastic grass that we all support. There’s a few nice areas where the bankers and hot shots live. They drive around town with their windows up and their doors locked, noses plugged and suspended in the air.
