IOWA CITY – The worst team in the Big Ten came calling to Iowa City Thursday night, and it was just what the doctor ordered to help Iowa snap a two-game conference losing streak.
Iowa (16-10 overall, 7-6 in the conference) jumped out to a commanding lead early and out-classed Big Ten bottom-dweller Rutgers, 81-47, Thursday night on Mediacom Court inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The Hawkeyes led 42-24 at the half.
“I thought earlier on our effort level and our attention to detail was really good,” Iowa coach Fran McCaffery said. “We were a little bit complacent in the second half in terms of trading baskets.”
Jarrod Uthoff led Iowa with 14 points and 4 steals, a career high. He has led Iowa in scoring in four of the last five games.
Iowa is 15-1 this year when scoring 64+ points, with the lone loss coming to Iowa State.
Aaron White surpassed Ronnie Lester for sixth on Iowa’s all-time scoring list with 1,679 points.
Iowa returns to action when it travels to Lincoln, Nebraska, to face the Huskers. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:06 p.m. (CT) inside Pinnacle Bank Arena.
