CLEAR LAKE – A forgotten controlled burn re-ignited near a rural Clear Lake garage, engulfing and destroying the structure causing tens-of-thousands of dollars in damage.
The Clear Lake Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at 9722 230th Street in rural Clear Lake at 2:22pm. On arrival the fire department found a fully involved detached double stall garage on fire. Firefighters extinguished the fire and protected the home from fire extension. The garage and contents were a total loss. Contents included 4 riding lawn mowers and a 2004 Jeep Wrangler. The loss is estimated at $45,000.
The cause of the fire was determined to be embers from an earlier controlled burn that was thought to be extinguished.
There were no injuries.
The Clear Lake Fire Department was assisted by the Ventura Fire Department and the Cerro Gordo Sheriff’s Office. Clear Lake Fire Department responded with 2- pumper-tankers, 1 medic unit with 13 staff. Ventura Fire Department responded with a tanker unit and a pumper with 7 staff.
