MASON CITY – Mason City police caught a wanted man Sunday, prowling in a North End alley.
An alert Mason City police officer located wanted Beje Clark escapee John Daniel Murphy Sunday at about 1:00 PM at the 000 block of 14th Street NW. Murphy lied to the officer about his identity, then fled on foot. Murphy didn’t get far, and the officer caught him and placed him under arrest. He faces a charge of interference with official acts for his actions Sunday.
Murphy recently escaped from the Beje Clark Halfway house and was wanted on a warrant. He is now being held on no bond until he can be sent back there. Judge Annette Boehlje sent Murphy to Beje for 180 days – along with a 60 day jail term and $606.25 in fines and court costs – after a guilty plea to assault causing bodily injury and tampering with a witness or juror.
Earlier in October, Murphy pled guilty to a charge of theft in the fourth degree. Additionally, he is awaiting a November 18 trial on a charge of interference with official acts.
