WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Steve King released today the following statement calling for the creation of a no-fly list from the region affected by Ebola, and calling for the resignation of the Director of the Centers for Disease Control, Tom Frieden, as well.

“We have about 150 people a day coming from the Ebola region particularly Liberia and we need to stop all those flights. None of them are worth spreading Ebola around the United States,” said King. “And as for the 565 troops that have been deployed to West Africa, only volunteers should go into a place like that – not be ordered into battle with an unknown, unseen killer like Ebola.

“Tom Frieden, Director of the Centers for Disease Control needs to step down. He has lost his credibility. He’s been wrong almost every time he’s stepped up and made a public statement. We have to trust we’re getting medical, factual answers from our director of the CDC – not a political response. It seems like everything we get from the administration on Ebola has to first go through the White House’s political filter before it can be delivered to the American people.

“I’m ready to go back to Washington, D.C. for a special session of Congress to have an open debate on the Ebola crisis. Congress needs to give direction on the Ebola crisis and give a voice to the American people to establish an Ebola policy with the President of the United States. Ebola should not be a partisan issue – it shouldn’t be about politics.

“I want to hear from people around the 4th District and around the state. I want to hear from people in Iowa that are paying attention and the best experts we have in the country. Let’s come together to protect Americans from the threat that is Ebola.”
