Man who survived alleged drunk driving accident accused of parole violation

MASON CITY – An Alexander, Iowa man who rolled his car allegedly while drunk is in jail, accused of violating the terms of his parole in connection to a sex abuse conviction.

Cerro Gordo County deputies responded to a report of a single vehicle rollover near the 182 mile marker on Highway 18 on September 22. Upon arrival, deputies found that Kalob Dean Carpenter, age 23, had rolled his 2001 Chrysler LHS into the ditch on the north side of the roadway. Mason City fire medics and the Clear Lake Fire Department assisted deputies at the scene, and Carpenter was not injured.

Deputies determined after an investigation that Carpenter was intoxicated and placed him under arrest for first offense operating while intoxicated, failure to maintain control and no insurance. He was transported to the Cerro Gordo County Jail and released. He awaits an October 20 hearing.

Two days later, the Iowa Department of Corrections issued a parole violation report against Carpenter in connection with a sex offense conviction, and he was arrested and held in the Cerro Gordo jail on no bond.

Carpenter was convicted in 2011 for assault to commit sexual abuse.
