ROCKWELL CITY – Hundreds of capsules of unknown drugs were found in an Iowa prison, and an investigation is now underway.
The Iowa Department of Public Safety’s Division of Narcotics Enforcement and Division of Criminal Investigation are investigating approximately 300-400 unknown capsules discovered at the North Central Correctional Facility in Rockwell City, in Calhoun county, Iowa.
The capsules were found during searches at the correctional facility.
The capsules will be sent to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation’s Criminalistics Laboratory in Ankeny for processing and analysis. Test results will take several weeks to complete.
The North Central Correctional Facility houses about 494 medium and minimum custody inmates who have been classified low risk offenders, including misdemeanants and felons, which comprise approximately 80% of the population. The institution emphasizes individual accountability and responsibility. There are 107 staff in the facility.
