MASON CITY – A local teen has won a national championship in kart racing.
Lucas Jacobson, 15 of Mason City, has been competing in go-kart racing for years, with the help and support of his dad, Kevin. After a lot of hard work and many races, Lucas won a Duffy national championship race at the IKF Grand nationals held in Newton, Iowa, on July 18th. The highest award in U.S. karting is the Duffy award.
After a rough start to the race, Lucas put the Easy Cash sponsored TRR powered Kinetik Racing Chassis Genesis into victory lane.
“I would like to thank easy cash solution for the support as well as my other sponsors. Also would like to thank Wesley LeBlanc for the fast chassis,” Lucas said.
“I am so proud of him and how far he has come in life,” Lucas’ dad, Kevin said after the race. “He learned a great life lesson in never giving up. I can’t thank all of our sponsors enough and have to personally thank Wesley LeBlanc for all his help.”
Kart racing is said to be the fastest growing form of motor sports in the world. A go-kart is a small gas-powered car that seats one person. The driver sits only a few centimeters above the ground and there is no body on the car, just a chassis. Many famous race car drivers got started in karting — Michael Andretti, Ricky Rudd, Al Unser Jr. and Scott Pruett, to name a few. Today the word “go” has almost been eliminated from the lingo and they are now referred to mainly as “karts” and “karting”. The International Karting Association has a class for kids as young as five, and children can start racing at age eight. Karting is a family sport.
Well done you guys!!
