Des Moines, Iowa – State Representative Sharon Steckman of Mason City has been appointed to a national education committee by House Democratic Leader Kevin McCarthy of Des Moines. The committee is part of the Council of State Governments (CSG).
“In just her second year as Ranking Member of the Iowa House Education Committee, Rep. Steckman has impressed her fellow legislators with her strong work ethic and commitment to improving Iowa’s education system by ensuring Iowa students are prepared for the workforce,” said Leader McCarthy.
“It’s a great honor to serve on the CSG Education Committee. I look forward to working with legislators from around the country to learn new, innovative ideas from other states to ensure Iowa students are able to compete with others from around the world,” said Steckman.
The CSG Education Committee is a new policy committee created to foster exchange of information and ideas related to education. The committee will be made up of lawmakers from 11 Midwestern states and four Canadian provinces. The committee plans to meet July 14, 2013 in St. Paul, Minnesota.
The Council of State Governments is the nation’s only nonpartisan association of state officials serving all three branches of government in all 50 states and the U.S. territories. CSG is a regionally-based, national organization that promotes excellence in state government.
