MASON CITY – The Mason City Human Rights agency will introduce a new administrative assistant Thursday at its regular monthly meeting.

City Clerk Diana Black will be the new administrative assistant, replacing long-time assistant Amy Simpson. Simpson told NIT that she did not resign the position. There was no word as to how Simpson actually left the agency. She had been serving in a part-time capacity, as will Black. Supposedly, Black will be doing intake of cases and / or other duties as needed to serve the Human Rights Commission.  There wasn’t any immediate word on how the new duties related to the Human Rights agency would affect Black’s duties as city clerk.

One political insider told NIT that “the new duties won’t have any affect on her regular job as city clerk because Eric Bookmeyer doesn’t care if she does any intake of cases.  He doesn’t want any cases, so why would he want her to do intake?  Her office is right next to Trout’s and near Bookmeyer’s.  They can watch everything she does, listen to her, see everyone that comes in.  There is no privacy.  You won’t see many cases ever reported, now.”

According to the agenda for today’s meeting, which will be held a 4 PM at city hall, the commission will discuss “recognition of Amy Simpson’s many years of service” to the Mason City Human Rights agency.
