DES MOINES – Gov. Terry Branstad this week is promoting learning opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
Monday, Branstad was at Greenwood Elementary School in Des Moines to unveil a new plan to promote STEM learning opportunities in Iowa. He unveiled a new logo for the STEM initiative, which Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds plays a major role in.
The governor also announced public service announcements aimed at a public he says doesn’t know enough about the STEM program.
The Governor’s STEM Advisory Council is a collaboration of bi-partisan Iowa legislators, educators, businesses, nonprofits, students and families focused on improving STEM opportunities and awareness in Iowa.
The goal of increasing STEM interest and achievement is critical to regaining Iowa’s historic legacy as a leader in education and workforce development, a state website says. The site also claims that STEM will be a vital economic development advantage for quality job growth in our state, as STEM graduates are in great demand to meet current and future workforce needs.
