71 Iowa nonprofits receive nearly $135,000 from Alliant Energy Foundation

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – September 4, 2013 – Nonprofits across Iowa received Community Grants totaling $134,900 from the Alliant Energy Foundation as part of its summer grant making process.

The grants were made through the Alliant Energy Foundation’s Community Grant Program, which supports specific projects benefiting the community in the areas of arts, education, environment, and human and civic needs. Examples of funded projects include honors for veterans, music education, shelter and medical services for low-income individuals, outdoor recreation events, academic support and mentoring for youth, and community art performances. The grants are awarded in response to applications filed.

A full geographic listing of recipient organizations, their projects and funding awards is attached.

In Cedar Rapids, 14 nonprofits received $37,250:

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cedar Rapids and East Central Iowa, Coe College, Cedar Rapids City Market, Cedar Rapids Science Center, Iowa Art Works, Cedar Rapids Symphony Association, Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois, American Red Cross, His Hands Free Medical Clinic, Childrens Theatre of Cedar Rapids, Linn Area Education Association, St. Luke’s Health Care Foundation, Willis Dady Emergency Shelter and Goodwill Industries of the Heartland.

In Dubuque six nonprofits received $8,750:

Clarke University of Dubuque, Veterans Freedom Center, Dubuque Main Street, Dubuque Chorale, Dubuque Area Youth Leadership Council and Proudly Accessible Dubuque.

Two statewide organizations received $15,000:

Iowa Public Television and Kirkwood Community College Foundation

“We’re proud of our tradition of supporting communities and pleased to assist such a wide array of quality programs,” said Tom Aller, president of the Alliant Energy Foundation. “These nonprofits contribute greatly to improving the quality of life for all citizens across Iowa and we’re pleased to lend our support.”

The Community Grant Program has awarded more than $300,000 in grants during its second-of-three grant cycles in 2013. More than $700,000 has been awarded in 2013 and $1 million was provided to 559 non-profit organizations across the Alliant Energy service area in 2012.
