WASHINGTON, D.C. — Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) announced reccently that a total of $159,975 will be coming to Jefferson, Marshall, and Winnebago counties from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Rural Economic Development Grant Program to purchase and install warning sirens. The funding includes a $3,000 grant to the City of Clemens to purchase firefighter safety equipment. Harkin is a senior member of the Senate Agriculture Committee and the Appropriations subcommittee that funds these initiatives.
“Iowa has seen its share of devastating storms and investments like these are critical to alerting and assisting Iowans in a weather emergency,” said Harkin. “I congratulate the counties that have received funding, which will help rural communities communicate warnings quickly and protect their residents.”
Details of the funding below:
– Marshall County — $1,725 Community Facility Grant to purchase and install a warning siren for the City of Clemons.
– $3,000 Community Facility Grant to purchase firefighting safety equipment for the City of Clemons.
– Jefferson County — $132,000 Waste and Water Disposal Grant to to assist Regional Utility Service Systems Commission with completing construction of a sewer system for the unincorporated community of Argyle, Iowa. Sixty-one rural residential and commercial customers will benefit from the project.
– Winnebago County — $23,250 Economic Initiative Grant to purchase and install a warning siren for the City of Buffalo Center.
