Northwood, IOWA — On August 5, 2013 at 11:41 AM, the Worth County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from a female requesting help at Swensrud Park in Northwood, Iowa.
Deputies responded and located a female with severe injuries. Deputies learned that the suspect, Tyrone Washington Jr. (39) had fled the scene and taken the victim’s car, a silver 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix.
The female caller was transported to Mercy Hospital North Iowa by the Mason City Fire Department but later died from her injuries. Based on information learned during the investigation, law enforcement issued an attempt to locate bulletin on the suspect and the missing Pontiac Grand Prix.
An autopsy on the victim is scheduled for today, August 6, 2013 at the State Medical Examiner’s Office. The victim’s identity will be released upon completion of the autopsy and notification of family.
The Worth County Sheriff’s Department requested assistance in the investigation from the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, Iowa State Patrol, Division of Intelligence, Mason City Police Department, Manly Police Department, Northwood Fire and Rescue, and Mason City Fire Department.
At approximately 3:30 PM, the Pontiac was spotted by an Iowa State Trooper heading eastbound on Interstate 80 near the 276 mile marker. The trooper attempted to stop the car and a pursuit ensued. The suspect left the roadway near the 289 mile marker and drove through corn and bean fields along the interstate. During the pursuit, intentional vehicle contact was used, resulting in damage to the Pontiac and State Patrol vehicles. Tyrone Washington Jr. was taken into custody and transported to the Scott County Jail where he is being held on various traffic charges related to the pursuit.
The agencies involved in the pursuit and apprehension include the Iowa State Patrol, Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Enforcement, Scott County Sheriff’s Office, Walcott Police Department and Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
Here is a story idea. I’m pretty sure the school side apartments are where the other stabbing took place a couple months ago. Why don’t you do a story on who owns those apartments and in what other towns in the area they have similar properties.
I live in Northwood and have for years. Some people ask, “What does color of skin have to do with it?” Well… We haven’t had a stabbing or murder here in the past 12 years I’ve lived here that I’m aware of, and now that we have these Chicago area transplants, there have been two of them. Get out of town and go back to where you came from, scumbags.
She loved Tyrone and had a restraining order against her BF like a proper hood rat. She loved him very much right up until he stabbed her multiple times.
He was exciting and bit dangerous…

Peter, again, persons close to the Barlas family asked me to close the comments on the incident you are referring to. Out of courtesy, I did that. It’s called having some compassion for a family that was traumatized. This has always been NIT’s policy. I’m not sure if you are angry at them or me, but really, get past it and move on.
once again I have to agree with Peter L. You have NOT stayed consistent in your reporting. Sometimes the truth hurts. get over it and try to practice what you preach, and what you want NIT to stand for. Or print a disclaimer in every article stating that if the family wants the comments turned off or stifle the story all one needs to do is ask.
Didn’t you vow to leave and never to return to start your own website? How about showing some consistency and staying gone. If you don’t like the site, don’t read it.
Peter did say that, but I would ask Peter to stay because many times he makes great comments. I enjoy reading them. Peter is known as a very smart man. I would just ask that he make positive comments; I’m aware of his criticisms and I will take them into consideration.

Peter, I am not using any blogger to attack you. I have continued to answer you myself as I am now. Also, I like you just fine, we have had plenty of friendly conversations here and in person and it’s too bad you are so upset with me. I recognize you feel I have double standards or feel I do not run NIT in the best way or as you would. You are more than entitled to your opinion.
