Mason City, Iowa– The dogs in Mason City have long dreamed of wide open spaces and a place to call their own! So, Mason City has been nominated in PetSafe’s 2013 Bark for Your Park contest.

PetSafe, a leading innovator in pet behavior and lifestyle solutions, invited all U.S. communities to participate in the third annual “Bark for Your Park” contest on May 1. One city will be awarded $100,000 to build a local dog park and four other pet passionate finalists will also receive $25,000.

“Mason City is committed to developing a dog park starting with a strong group of volunteers, knowledgeable staff, dedicated park board and supportive council,” stated Mason City Mayor Eric Bookmeyer. “Funds are being raised and committed already to get our dog park built…but why not dream a little Mason City. Winning the Pet Safe “Bark for Your Park” will be the cherry on top and our dogs would really have something to bark about. Start voting River City and Facebook it to your friends.”

Now that Mason City has been nominated, we need to find a place for the dog park and gain civic leaders’ support. As they determine the 15 Finalists, PetSafe will review the availability of land and civic leaders’ support. Citizens will also be able vote every day to help their city move forward in the contest. Mason City citizens can vote once each day at both the City’s website at www.masoncity.net or Facebook page at www.facebook.com/CityOfMasonCity. These votes will also be counted to pick the Finalists. For the best chance to become a finalist, Mason City should excel in all three of these categories.

The 15 Finalists will be announced on June 5, when they will be asked to produce a video and continue barking for their park. The finalist city with the most votes will receive $100,000 to build a PetSafe dog park. Three runner-up and the city with the highest percentage of votes to its population will each receive $25,000. Winners will be announced on July 31.

@Allen-it will be a lot of fertilizer for sure. I really think this will be a good thing for Mason City. I know a lot of people like the statues but I think that money would have been better spent of the dog park. (and no, I do not have a dog) but I like them.

I can’t wait for this to get built, then maybe our beautiful parks will be a lot cleaner. I pity the person that gets to clean/maintain it though.
