WASHINGTON, D.C. – Arizona Senator John McCain passed away Saturday, August 25, from cancer.  Iowa’s top elected officials responded with statements:

Gov. Kim Reynolds issued the following statement Saturday night on the passing of Sen. John McCain: “Today, we lost an American hero. John McCain’s life reflected some of the very best our county had to offer. He understood the greatness of America, fought tirelessly for our values and put forth decades of admirable service to this nation. He was a loving husband and father, and we will never forget him or the legacy he leaves behind.”

U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley said, “John McCain & I served together in the United States Senate for 32 years. His tenacity & courage, including in Vietnam as a POW for 6 years- won’t be forgotten. I join the nation tonight in honoring Sen McCain’s life and legacy of service.”

U.S. Senator Joni Ernst said, “Sen. John McCain was the personification of service to our country. May he rest in peace.”

U.S. Representative Steve King said, “Only those who suffered at the Hanoi Hilton(s) really know all the suffering endured by our POW’s. John McCain used every day of his life in preparation for or actively serving our country. RIP, John.”

President Donald Trump, known to clash with McCain, also released a brief statement, saying, “My deepest sympathies and respect go out to the family of Senator John McCain. Our hearts and prayers are with you!”

It is interesting that NIT decided to allow the morons who think it is their right and duty to delete posts to delete the posts on this article.

Hypocrites. You bust your collecive political asses to say nice things now but were deadly silent when Trump bashed and raped him. Karma be upon you!

Honestly, McCain neither needed not wanted anyone else to fight on his behalf, as he was utterly capable of fending for himself until the very end. America has lost a true hero. It’s a shame her lost the 2000 election. The world would have been a better place with him at the helm on 9/11

All you have to known is that Trump and sters are not invited – speakers – OBAMA and BUSH – Birds of the feather flock together !

mccain should have never got into politics (said my 90 yr old grandma from Ariz)
seeing what he has done since I started paying attention –I agree

Less of Trump in the news the better.

Eveyone is a saint when they pass- I google his past – seems a 105 navy people don’t think to highly of him – he hated Trump and what was know as a rino . Google the hero – especially his take off from the aircraft carrier.

I am sure that if you would give us your real name and we would google you, there would a lot of your past that would be shameful. McCain was a hero. Trump is not. His statement about McCain being a prisoner was disrespectful at the least and stupid. If Trump was 1/2 the man McCain was, he would be able to talk about his tour of duty. Oh wait, bone spurs were his excuse.

McCain was a careless and wreck-less aviator who put people and himself in harms way, therefore his capture.
He was a senator in my adopted state, who ran on the republican ticket and had no desire to support those who put him in the seat, that would be us in AZ

Baloney, you guys weren’t singing that tune when he ran against the black dude. He was the great last white hope and Obama ate his lunch.

Thats pure baloney and we all know it. You guys werent singing that tune when he ran against the black dude you claimed was from Africa. He was the great white hope who had it all including an impeccable military record and a hot babe from Alaska. And then Obama ate his lunch. Fear and dispair drove you to Trump.

he’s a poser that sold out his fellow captives constantly…ask them

I agree that Trump shouldn’t have made the comment he did about McCain. But, just like you, Trump has the same right to make comments even if we disagree with them. As we both know, lots of people disagree with you too, but that doesn’t shut you up, nor should it.

If a person did or didn’t serve is of no concern to me either. My father was a career military man and I proudly served my country too. I’m sure your own military duty is filled with many honors and much heroics. If so, good for you and congratulations. If you didn’t serve, that’s up to you too, for whatever reason.

As far as Trumps bone spurs, he must have had them or else someone or some “news” organization would be asking for an investigation on that by now. Please share with us what aliments or reasons Presidents Clinton and Obama gave as their reason(s) for not serving.

Agree with you that military service is a choice and I don’t believe Obama or Clinton served either. My point was that the President of the United States dishonored someone who served while he never placed himself in harm’s way. He has avoided visiting our troops overseas for some reason and he isn’t doing anything for our veterans at home either. I originally posted what I did because a moron was trying to disrespect a veteran who put his life on the line. I thought Trumpsters were all about patriotism but this guy proves that assumption wrong.

You don’t believe Clinton or Obama served either. I gots to call BS on ya for that one. You no damn well they didn’t serve. But cuz they are crats like you that’s ok with you aint it. you pretty much let us know what you are on that one. Yes!

Trump is doing more for them vets. Way more past what Obama did to. you know it your self. Yes,.

Tell me what Trump is doing for vets. I said I don;t believe Clinton and Obama served. I stated a fact. Maybe they did serve in some capacity after all, both were Presidents so they did serve this country. What did you do?

Oh look there. The libraterd that hates the military and everything about the Republican Party is now defending McCain. Last week old teach was trying to tear him apart. What a damn hypocrite and liar.

Never thought I’d agree with Boda, but today I do. Well spoken!
