Man dies in auto accident; stolen goods returned to owner

From the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office –

GARNER – On Sunday, January 6th, 2013, The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office investigated a single vehicle accident northeast of Kanawha, in the 1400 block if 150th Street.  The driver of the vehicle, Martin Crodes, 50, of Thornton, died from injuries related to the accident.

The investigation concluded that Cordes was driving eastbound when the passenger side tires of his vehicle entered the south ditch, turning the truck over on to its top.  The vehicle was discovered at approximately 7:30 AM by a passerby.

Cordes’ dog was in the vehicle during the accident, but did not sustain any injuries.  Personal property items found in Cordes’ vehicle and at the accident scene were recovered and returned to the owner of a residence four mile west of the accident scene that had been burglarized immediately before the accident.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Kanawha Police Department, Klemme and Goodell Fire Department and the Kanawha and West Hancock Ambulance Services.

Whether he stole or not is NOT important anymore. He’s DEAD. He also has family still alive and they have feelings. The GG didn’t mention the stolen goods because the GG has feelings, brains, and compassion for his family. Something this site SERIOUSLY lacks.
Sympathies to the family. Kristi it’s best for you if you don’t read these bozo’s hurtfulcomments. Be with your family & those that love you and will comfort you.

Do you posters ever stop and think about others when you blast them for no reason. Sure you have a right to your opinion. Sometimes it’s best kept to yourself. Esp. if voicing it will be hurtful to INNOCENT people.

Oh your so holy? That’s funny, because last i knew in the Bible it also says to be MARRIED BEFORE YOU OPEN YOUR LEGS AND HAVE CHILDREN. Also says not to DRINK or BE AROUND “DRUNKARDS”; Also says to watch what you say because that becomes your life… OH & IT ALSO SAYS “THOU SHALL NOT JUDGE” !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How many of the 10 commandments have you kept?? You honestly have NOTHING better to do with your pathetic life but talk about the DEAD… SMH… pure definition of DESPICABLE. Spit on yourself.

RIP MARTY

I worked with Marty for several years. He was a great guy and always supported his family. I didn’t always agree with some of the things he did, but I always thought he would give the shirt off his back to help family and friends. R.I.P.

What the story also doesn’t mention is that he left behind a great wife, a really cool son and two beautiful daughters.

He may have been a thief, but he did what he did to support his family.

Shall I remind everyone of other thieves in our world in which we never really think about? Thieves that steal millions?

The goons on Wall Street that steal our retirement money, the Doctors in the ER that charge us $40 for a band aid, not to mention the scandalous insurance companies and oil tycoons.

Those types of people that steal right out our pockets and bank accounts, taking our hard earned money so they can pay for their vacation homes and yachts.

All this man is guilty of, is doing what he had to do to support his family all while holding down a full time job, just to make ends meet. Which is very difficult to do these days.

I don’t know what I would do if I were in his position. I too feel the stress of trying to get by since I am on a layoff due to Union work being in a slump right now.

Fortunately for me, I don’t have a wife nor children to care for. Otherwise there’s no telling what I would do to give them what they need.

Everyone is guilty of something.

Everyone has broken a commandment.

It takes a real small person to talk down upon someone after they’ve just died, and to do so in such a place where their grieving friends and family have to see it? Who’s the low life now?

His family would never wish their pain upon anyone else, not even their worst enemies nor the people on here. That shows who the bigger person really is.

Marty didn’t live a luxurious life like a scamming doctor or sleazy politician. He paid rent and drove an older truck.

But if you could put a face value on his friends and family? He would of been one of the richest men.

Marty was a fun guy to be around and I’m grateful to have had him in my life briefly and I will love and cherish his family from here on out.

Ok, I understand what you are saying but I have been without and looked at going to the Salvation Army with my 9 year old at the time when were living in Denver Colo. NOT once did I think about stealing. I feel bad for the family but please don’t come across that it is ok to break into someones home and take things that they have worked hard for. It is ok to love the sinner but not the sin. Here again I am sorry for the families loss.

I’m sorry for the family’s loss. There is no excuse for stealing from a neighbor or anyone else. And there is no excuse for your trying to justify his criminal behavior. Had this well-liked man asked his friends for help, they probably would have helped him. And pride should not drive a person to stealing instead of asking for help.

@OneEyed-Although I feel sorry for his wife and family a thief is a thief. What about the people he stole from. Don’t you think they needed the stuff he stole? Don’t you think they had to work for what he stole? Maybe they didn’t live that well either and really needed what he stole. I am sorry he died but a thief is a thief and I don’t feel sorry saying that.

I worked with marty for a couple years and I always enjoyed his grin and laugh. I offer my prayers to his family for their loss.

All a man wishes, is to die doing what he loved to do, evedently, he did.

then you obviously didnt know him. watch wat you say

Why, you gonna come steal my shit.

I knew Marty. He was a good guy. Still no excuse to be a low-life theif.

seriously you guys have nothing better to do than bash on other people? for your info, that was MY dad that you all are talking shit about? who are you to judge? no, stupid they werent chasing him? was that mentioned? no. and an eye for an eye? get real. if you knew the man he was non of you would be on here saying what you are saying right now. stop commenting on here unless you wanna come to me and takl aboujt it. “enough said”

Sorry you lost your father.

I just watched a report on this on KIMT and there was not a word about stolen goods. I guess that is not important.

He met his maker, got what he had coming. Im not a cruel person but as the bible say an eye for an eye. Thou shall not steal. “enough said”

How is death a punishment? We’re all going to die someday. Where is it written that we are all suppose to live till old age? Does it matter when and how if it’s always up “God” to say when we’re born and die? Or is your Bible belief just hype?

OK were the cops chasing him or were the owners of the stolen goods chasing him because something doesn’t sound right here!

Devine intervention, soulds like a good episode for 1,000 ways to die.
