MASON CITY – Updated at 2 PM: Early Friday morning, Mason City police investigated “loud shouting” at Northside Liquor, 1303 North Federal Avenue.
The responding officer found a subject at the rear of the building on its east side, stabbed in the arm. He was transported to Mercy Hospital but his wounds were not life-threatening.
A police investigation revealed that the injured subject, Reggie Williams, 21, of Mason City, had approached a car in the liquor store drive-up lane, containing several occupants, and proceeded to have an argument about an on-going dispute. Williams then punched one of the occupants in the car. A different passenger then stabbed Williams in the arm.
Williams was released from the hospital and charged with disorderly conduct. The case is still under investigation.

Mason City police are investigating a possible stabbing incident early Friday on the city’s north side.
An NIT reader said “Witnesses say a man called BoBo was stabbed in the arm,” somewhere near the intersection of 13th Street and North Federal Ave.
Another source said today that authorities are “looking for a white Chevy Impala, 4-door with four people, one is armed with a knife that was involved in a stabbing at Northside Liquor.”
Mason City police confirmed this morning that there was an incident, but could offer little more information. “This incident is still under investigation, no arrests have been made at this point. A press release will be issued once we have more information,” a spokeswoman said.

It’s not that we don’t think there is anything to worry about we are just trying to put some perspective on things. People seem to freak out anytime crime happens and talk about how bad the town is getting etc etc. No, it’s very similar to other small towns that are struggling through a recession and the shift away from manufacturing based industries. There are things to be done but the hyperbole sometimes about this town is incredible.
You are correct. For it’s size, a small city, Mason City has more than it’s fair share of trash crime. I lived in a city that was 4 times the size of Mason City and it had less ugly trash crime. It has little to do with the police department. It has more to do with what the population make-up is. Mason City has no decent employment to attract non-crime orientated people. It’s a great hub for drug delivery due to it’s location and make-up. Hang around the streets and bars and you too will see what goes on. Crawl out of your holes (homes) and smell the wonders of Mason City.

Yet, the crime rate in Mason City is nowhere near that of Gary, IN. In the last 11 years, the murder rate for MC was 3.4 or below per 100,000 people. In Gary, it ranged from 47 to 79 per 100,000 people. If you divide it into thirds, Mason City is still pretty far off.
Assaults: MC’s rate ranges from 68 to 375 per 100,000. Gary starts at 206, up to as high as 560 per 100,000. We come closer, but still if you divide it into thirds, we are not that close.
Why dont the police give press releases for the really serious crimes that go on in this town? They cover so much up, until a violent crime happens to you or your family you never really realize. What about all the rapes and sexual assaults in this town latley? Why have they not said anything? Do they want to pretend like its not happening? They sure will be there to arrest the family member that extracts revenge on a pos though. Maybe its time for target practice. There are alot of crows in the north end that are a problem.
News flash for a few of you commenters. Mason City is not dangerous. Far from it. Try Gary, IN or Compton, CA. Mason City does not come close no matter which statistic or demographic you use to compare.

Absolutely agree. The North End is full of friendly people and is as safe as anywhere else in this town. Look at Chicago’s recent crime stats or even Des Moines and you will see on the whole this is a safe place to live. Could it be better? Sure, but people need to get a grip on reality – this isn’t Compton.

We take care of things before they get as bad as Compton, Chicago, Gary. If they took care of there own in there city’s then we would not be having this conversation. Iowa made deals with Chicago to better the life of the gang banger’s and move them here give them welfare, food stamps, and H.U.D. so that they could clean up the projects ( tear them down and put up high-rise’s ) pretty nice of us to do that don’t you think. The reason we are all talking about the crime rate is because of this not in spite of it.
Iowa is a bit far to be included in what HUD and other groups demanded for scattered site housing as they removed and leveled projects such as Cabrini-Green or Robert Taylor Homes.
Why? Because the Chicago Housing Authority would not have gotten the $2.0 billion in grants had part of the projects included Iowa.
That is unless most of the Suburban Mayors and Councilmen/Aldermen got together and planned Iowa as a destination in order to avoid such citizens moving to their pristine enclaves. Mon Dieu!
I had to deal with this pos several times when I was a bouncer at a local bar. The police never did anything about him eventhough it was know by them he was banned and therefor trespassing. I’m sure he deserved what he got.

Title 19 is for children under the age of 21 or are still in school. Otherwise you have to have a disability or be a parent (if your lucky) to get Title 19. Believe me I know I had a deadly staff infection when I was just turning 21 and Title 19 would not pay for the treatment because I had reached that age limit. Now I have over $5000 in bills, and have not had adaquit health care insurance since.
Perhaps you should have found a full time job and paid for healthcare insurance in the 3 years since you had become a legal adult, instead of relying on government entitlement programs. You seem bitter the american tax dollars didn’t have to cover your medical issues.
