MASON CITY – According to online media reports, the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s office assisted the Mason City Police Department with a “large fight” early this morning at 1341 North Federal Avenue, otherwise known as Alley Katz Bar.
The first call to authorities was at 11:22 PM, where the sheriff’s office assisted the MCPD with dispersing a fight behind the bar, where an alley is located.
The second call, at 1:32 AM, was for the “large fight.” The report said that upon arrival, “people had fled the scene.”
Lt. Ron Vande Weerd of the Mason City police Department said this morning that “they (bar patrons and suspects) typically just scatter. They hear the sirens and they are gone.”
Vande Weerd said he didn’t believe anyone was injured and did not think any weapons were involved. He said employees at he bar were “unable or unwilling” to give information on who was involved in the altercations.
They need to keep the bar open … It keeps the jungle monkeys up there…

Yes, no one will deny there are problems at that bar, lots of them. However, racism does not solve anything, it only adds to the problems in our Community.

Why don’t the police stake out this place like they did at Rookies in Clear Lake? Keep this place open, then at least we know the bars we like are safe. They closed Rookies, then all of the trouble makers went to Dillingers – Dillingers stopped having a DJ, now they’re all at Alley Katz. So sad & most of the troubled people aren’t even from here.

If the place get’s closed down, all the morons and thugs will just hang at some other bar and cause trouble for people that want to enjoy their night out. Let them keep that rat trap open and keep all the rats in one place. All we can hope for is that the place collapses while it’s full of rats.

Here’s another thought, during this whole murder trial going on it would be best to stake out this area more and I dont mean sitting in a unmarked car because everyone knows what they look like, sit in an old piece of crap car where you will blend in that way you will catch these punks and possibly prevent another murder.
Yeah MCPD need to be in blended in cars like a Toyota Pirus or Honda Accord lol. When you see three antennas on the back of a crown Vic or a charger you always know lol. Come on ppl get smarter than the bad guys.

Arriving with sirens is common in law enforcement for the reason cited in the story: “the participants dispersed… fled the scene.”
If cops roll up silent, and run into a fight, they end up getting involved, hurt or someone ends up possibly getting shot.
If the fight’s bad enough, there will be bodies and limping individuals to round up and piece together what happened.
If no one’s hurt – the roaches scatter.
More cops are hurt/killed in “domestic” disturbances, and wading into a fight, the police do not know who’s related to who, dating who, etc. They go hands-on, and angry drunk girlfriend clobbers the officer’s blind-side to save her loved one.
Tax payers don’t need to pay for officers laid-up, on worker comp, with medical bills, and replacement officers because they wanted to slip into a fight un-announced.
They should just put some 22″ rims on their cruisers, then they would blend in more. They can pass off the flashing lights as neons and underbody kits. Don’t forget the loud bumpin’ stereo.
