WATERLOO — A 22-year-old Northern Iowa woman died after falling from a moving car onto a roadway during the evening of July Fourth, authorities said.
The Black Hawk County Dispatch Center received a 911 call at approximately 7:10 p.m. Saturday, July 4, 2026, reporting a single-vehicle incident in the 8000 block of Ansborough Avenue.
Black Hawk County sheriff’s deputies determined that a silver 2019 Toyota Camry was traveling south on Ansborough Avenue when a passenger fell out of the vehicle and landed on the roadway.
The passenger was identified as Tejanna Rose Hatt, 22, of Waterloo and formerly of Monona.
Hatt was transported by ambulance to MercyOne Hospital in Waterloo, where she was later pronounced dead.
Authorities have not publicly explained how Hatt fell from the moving car. The identity of the driver was not released, and no arrests or charges had been announced.
The Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office said the deadly incident remains under investigation.
The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Iowa State Patrol and the Hudson Fire Department and Ambulance.
According to her obituary, a celebration of Hatt’s life will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Leonard-Grau Funeral Home, 500 West Center Street in Monona.
