Debra Jean Mayo, 67, of Hawkeye, died Sunday, July 6, 2025, at Community Memorial Hospital in Sumner, following a battle with COPD and Cancer.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM, Saturday, July 12, 2025, at Becker & Son Funeral Home in Hawkeye. Interment will follow at Oak Lawn Cemetery, rural Hawkeye. Visitation will precede services at the funeral home on Saturday starting at 1:00 PM.
Debra Jean, daughter of Leo and Alice (Busch) Brincks was born April 11, 1958, at Palmer Lutheran Hospital in West Union. She received her blessed Sacraments at Holy Name Catholic Church in West Union. Deb received her education in the West Union Schools and graduated from North Fayette High School in 1975. On August 14, 1976, she was united in marriage with Tom Mayo at the First United Methodist Church in Fayette. To this union two children were born, Christopher and Heather. Deb worked at Atwood, Lands’ End, and Palmer Hospital, all in West Union, prior to owning and operating The Fun Factory Restaurant in Hawkeye, along with her husband, Tom. Deb was very artistic and enjoyed taking her crafts to many craft shows. She also enjoyed gardening and tending to her flowers.
Deb is survived by her husband, Tom of Hawkeye; children, Christopher (Kristin) Mayo of Grundy Center and Heather Dowd of Oelwein; five grandchildren, Madison and Alexis Mayo, and Landon, Liam and Lincoln Dowd; siblings, Duane (Ann) Brincks of Algona, Dianna (Lloyd) Patrick of Oelwein and Doris (Alan) Boess of Hawkeye; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, mother-in-law and father-in-law, Marlene and Lee Mayo; and step-father, Bill Peters.
