John Oscar Rowson, 68, passed away peacefully Saturday, November 9, 2024 at Good Shepherd Health Care Center.
Per John’s wishes his body has been cremated and no services will be held.
John Rowson was born on September 12, 1956, to Keith and Marilyn (Thayer) Rowson. A graduate of Rockwell High School, John had a deep-rooted passion for farming. Whether he was working the fields or caring for animals, he loved every moment of farm life. In his mid-fifties, he retired from full-time farming but stayed busy with part-time jobs, including working at the Rose Bowl and Casey’s General Store.
John cherished the outdoors. He spent countless hours on his porch, around bonfires, drinking beer, and anything to do with being outdoors. Westerns were a favorite pastime, and he was always ready for a road trip in a semi, tagging along whenever friends invited him. He shared much of his time with the neighbors he’d known for years in Mason City, building a strong and supportive community around him.
John is survived by his best friend and pal, Scott Miller and his family; siblings, Paul (Yvonne) Rowson, Bryan Rowson, and Teresa; as well as other extended family members and friends.
John is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Rolland “Rollie” Rowson; and his canine companion, Eddy.
