Iowa felon busted for sex with child, sent to prison for up to 30 years

ORANGE CITY – An Iowa felon enticed a child into sexual contact, and now will spend up to 30 years in prison wondering if it was all worth it.

Thomas Kunstle, Sioux County Attorney, announced that Andrew Michael Joslin (pictured at top), age 36 of Hospers, Iowa, was sentenced this month in Sioux County District Court for the crimes of Sexual Abuse in the Third Degree, two class C felonies, and Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, one class D felony. Assistant Sioux County Attorney Lori Ehlers prosecuted the case on behalf of Iowa in cooperation with the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office.

The case arose on September 5, 2023, when the Sioux County Shenfrs Office arrested Joslin alter receiving a report that Joslin solicited a minor female for inappropriate sexual content. Upon further investigation, it was determined that Joslin had sexual contact with a minor and also solicited and possessed a minor’s sexually explicit material on his cell phone.

On April 29, 2024, Joslin was sentenced by the District Court in Sioux County to a total indeterminate term of incarceration not to exceed 30 years in prison. Joslin was sentenced as a habitual offender because he had previously been convicted as a felon twice. The Court further sentenced Joslin to various criminal fines and surcharges, pursuant to Iowa Code 692A ordered him to register as a sex offender for life, and a special 903B lifetime supervision for sex offenders. The No Contact Order entered within the case was lastly extended for the maximum period of five years.
