College Football: Departing Iowa Hawkeye wide receiver Bostick flirting with Cyclones

IOWA CITY – An Iowa Hawkeye wide receiver that has entered the transfer portal, Jacob Bostick, praised God this afternoon when he announced an offer from rival Iowa State.

“Praise God!” former Iowa Hawkeye wide receiver Jacob Bostick exclaimed today via his social media account. “After a grea conversation with Coach Nate Pauley, I am blessed to announce I have received an offer from Iowa State!”

Last season, Bostick, a sophomore from Palatine, Illinois, played in five games, but had no statistics, according to Hawkeye football. In 2022, he redshirted and did not see any game action, missing significant practice time in preseason and 2023 spring practice due to injury.

Earlier this spring, Iowa State announced Pauley as the new wide receiver coach. He is clearly looking to add targets for up-and-coming quarteback Rocco Becht – the Big 12 Offensive Freshman of the Year – and the Cyclones’ high-powered offense.

Meanwhile Iowa cleaned house and hired new offensive coordinator Tim Lester with the firing of Brian Ferentz.  At an earlier press conference, Lester said,  “obviously wide receivers are a huge part, no matter what you’re running, schematically. But putting them in position is the biggest key.  Through my time in coaching, I think we’ve been around quite a bit of pretty good ones, and we’ve been able to find ways to get the ball in their hands. There’s a lot of ways to do that, whether it’s screens, whether it’s straight drop-back, whether it’s putting them in the backfield. The flexibility of an offense is key.  I want to make sure that the quarterback understands that we are going to spread the ball around.”

Iowa State plays Iowa on September 7, 2024, in Iowa City, to continue the rivalry.
