Donna May (Freeman) Seible of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2024 at the age of 92. A graveside service will be held at 10:30, May 9, 2024 at Riverside Cemetery, Rockford, IA. Officiating will be Pastor Robert Scheurer of Zion Lutheran Church, Rockford, IA.
Donna May was born on May 9, 1931 in Dexter Township. She attended school locally and in Austin, MN. She finished her first year at St. Olaf College and later graduated from Winona Teachers College with a speech major and English minor. She moved to Chicago after graduating and worked in a cardiologist’s office downtown. She met Donald D. Seible during this time. They were married in St. Paul, MN on March 7, 1959. The couple moved to a few locations in the Midwest and welcomed their only child, Darla Lynette Seible May 1970 in Flint, MI. The trio would enjoy camping, traveling in their RV and enjoying each other’s company. In the mid 80’s the Seibles relocated to Edmond, OK where Donald retired from Montgomery Ward before losing his battle with cancer in 1990.
Donna stayed in the Oklahoma City area for the remainder of her life. She was active in her church and community helping with reading and study programs for elementary age students. She was also engaged in amateur dramatics and local theater productions. She enjoyed traveling with her daughter – their favorite locations being Belize, India, Thailand, Ireland and visits throughout the rest of Europe.
Although Donna enjoyed visiting other countries as well as trips up North, she also cherished going home to be with her friends and animal companions. She was well known for her love of animals, gardening and history. Donna was interested in continuing her education by learning more about the world around her and was always reading to accomplish this goal. What she couldn’t learn from reading, she tried to experience directly in order to gain more insight or skills.
Donna is remembered by friends and family as always being so welcoming. She was elegant and poised but also the first one to crack a joke. Her voice would capture the attention of an audience who would listen to every word while regaling them with stories of her travel or family. She was very proud of her daughter Darla when she graduated with her Master’s degree and opened her own counseling business in Dallas, Texas. She and Darla remained best friends throughout Donna’s life. They visited each other frequently and enjoyed sharing new insights with one another.
Surviving Donna is her daughter, Darla. Preceding her in death were her husband, Donald, her parents Carl Irving and Eva Florence Freeman, and her brothers Merle and Kenneth.
