Terry R. Thompson 82, passed away, Thursday, April 11, 2024, at MeryOne North Iowa Medical Center, Mason City, Iowa.

Terry Ray Thompson was born on August 17, 1941, in York, Nebraska, to the Reverend W. Ray and Audrey (Willison) Thompson. He spent his early years in Cranston, Ohio, where he attended grade school before graduating from Grand Meadow High School in 1959. After high school Terry showcased his talent on the basketball court at West Mar College.

On June 6th, 1965, he married the love of his life, Sherri Baird.

Terry’s career journey began as a meat cutter and grocery store merchandiser before he took the bold step of owning his own grocery store in Mason City, Iowa, which he fondly named Terry’s Food Center. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to manage other grocery and retail stores before eventually retiring.

In his personal life, Terry was blessed with a son, Troy, and a daughter, Tristi. However, the family faced the tragic loss of Troy at 39 in 2007.

Terry is survived by his devoted wife, Sherri, and their daughter, Tristi, who is married to Jim Finstad. He leaves behind a legacy cherished by his grandchildren: Tucker (Josi) Finstad, Madison Finstad, and Paisley Finstad. He also leaves behind nieces Pam (Jodi) Freiborg and Deb (Terry) Holwerda, as well as nephews Jay (Sherri) Black and Jon (Allison) Black.

Terry was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Rod Black, his sister, Mary Lee Black, and his parents, W. Ray and Audrey Thompson. His memory lives on in the hearts of all who knew him, remembered for his warmth, strength, and love for his family.
