Iowa school bus and semi collision sends three to hospital in ambulance

SCOTT COUNTY, IOWA - An Iowa school bus and semi collision sent three persons to a hospital in an ambulance.

SCOTT COUNTY, IOWA – An Iowa school bus and semi collision sent three persons to a hospital in an ambulance.

Authorities say that on March 6, 2023, at approximately 8:41 AM, Scott Emergency Communications Center (SECC) received a report of an accident with injuries at 110th Ave and 130th St. The intersection is located in western Scott County. Reports indicated the accident was between and school bus and a semi. SECC dispatched Scott County Sheriff’s Office, along with Buffalo Police Department and Scott County Conservation Officers. Blue Grass and Buffalo Fire Departments along with MEDIC Ambulance were also dispatched to the scene.

On scene investigation determined a 2011 Iowa school bus bearing was traveling westbound on 130th Street at 110th Ave. The school bus stopped for the stop sign on 130th St at 110th Ave. The school bus proceeded to continue west on 130th Street, failing to yield the right of way to a semi traveling southbound on 110th Ave. The school bus was operated by Kimberly Skipper from Moline, Illinois. The school bus was owned by Durham School Services. The bus was transporting students for the Davenport Community School District. The school bus had 9 students on board at the time of the accident. The students were able to exit the bus through the rear emergency exit before responders arrived.

The southbound semi was bearing IA tags of VB8528. The school bus struck the semi in the southbound lanes. The semi was operated by Patrick Irons from Blue Grass, Iowa. The semi is owned by QC Transport Inc. Police said it should be noted Patrick Irons driving the semi was able to take evasive action to avoid a much worst collision. The semi continued a short distance before overturning on its passenger side in the west ditch of 110th Ave. The driver was able to exit the semi before responders arrived.

Both drivers and one student were transported by MEDIC Ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries. All students were released to parents or family member who arrived on scene.

Kimberly Skipper was cited for violation of Iowa Code 321.321 Failure to Yield Upon Entering Through Highways.
