DES MOINES – The Iowa Board of Corrections voted unanimously today in support of the appointment of Jeremy Larson as the next warden of the Anamosa State Penitentiary in Anamosa, Iowa. This appointment was recommended to the board by a department hiring committee. Larson will replace former warden Bill Sperfslage, who was selected by department Director Beth Skinner to serve as the Deputy Director of Institutions earlier this year.

Larson has served as the deputy warden of the Newton Correctional Facility since July of 2016. He started his more-than-20-year career in corrections with the Fort Dodge Correctional Facility as a correctional officer in 1999. Throughout his career in corrections, he has held such positions as: correctional officer, correctional counselor, assistant unit manager, and treatment services director.

Commenting on the approval by the board, Iowa Corrections Director Beth Skinner said, “Our team at the Anamosa State Penitentiary deserves a capable warden with a proven track-record of effective leadership, and that is what they will be getting with Warden Larson.”
