MASON CITY – For the second straight week, a NIACC women’s basketball player has earned the ICCAC’s player of the week honor.

NIACC freshman Autam Mendez was selected as the league’s player of the week for the week of Jan. 21-27. Last week, Mandy Willems earned the award for the second time this season.

Mendez scored 30 points and grabbed a career-best 17 rebounds in a win over Little Priest Tribal College and scored a career-high 41 points with 15 rebounds in a win over Ellsworth.

Mendez averages 18.4 points per game and has made 53 3-point goals. She leads the Lady Trojans with 171 rebounds.

No. 7 NIACC returns to action Thursday at home in an ICCAC contest against Iowa Lakes. Game time is slated for 5:30 p.m.

NIACC’s Roberson earns league’s POW week honor

NIACC freshman guard Deundra Roberson was selected as the ICCAC men’s basketball player of the week for the week of Jan. 21-27.

It is the third time this season that a NIACC men’s basketball player has earned the league’s player of the week award. Wendell Matthews earned the award for the week of Nov. 26-Dec. 4 and Quentin Hardrict was the league’s winner for the week of Dec. 3-9.

Roberson scored 21 points in the Trojans’ win over Little Priest Tribal College and he scored a career-high 28 points in their win over Ellsworth.

Roberson is averaging 13.9 points per game and is one of four Trojans that averages in double figures.

No. 14 NIACC returns to action Thursday night at home against Iowa Lakes in an ICCAC contest. Game time is slated for 7:30 p.m. in the NIACC gym.

NIACC women move up to seventh in NJCAA Division II poll
MASON CITY – The NIACC women’s basketball team is ranked seventh in the NJCAA Division II poll released Tuesday.

NIACC (15-5, overall, 6-1 ICCAC) was ranked ninth in the Jan. 23 poll. The Lady Trojans were 2-0 last week with wins over Little Priest Tribal College and Ellsworth.

NIACC returns to action Thursday at home in an ICCAC contest against Iowa Lakes. Game time is slated for 5:30 p.m. in the NIACC gym.
NJCAA Division II poll (Jan. 29, 2018)

Johnson County, Illinois Central, Highland (Kan.), Kirkwood, Moraine Valley, North Arkansas, NIACC, Union County, Kansas City (Kan.), Lincoln Land, South Suburban, Lackawanna, Niagara County, Muskegon, Lake Land, Pima, Monroe CC, Mid-Michigan, St. Louis, Catawba Valley.

NIACC men ranked No. 14 in latest poll

The NIACC men’s basketball team is No. 14 in the NJCAA Division II poll released Tuesday.

NIACC (15-3 overall, 5-1 ICCAC) was No. 17 in the Jan. 23 poll and gained a pair of ICCAC wins last week (110-85 over Little Priest Tribal College and 86-74 over Ellsworth).

NIACC was also 14th in the Dec. 18 and Jan. 8 polls.

Schoolcraft (Michigan) is ranked No. 1 and Kirkwood is ranked No. 2.
NIACC returns to action Thursday at home against Iowa Lakes. Game time in the NIACC gym is slated for 7:30 p.m.
