Alliant Energy grant supports those most set back by the tornado that hit Marshalltown

MARSHALLTOWN – Alliant Energy is donating funds to help those affected by the powerful tornado that ripped through Marshalltown last week.

According to Alliant Energy, no one was ready for the devastating tornado in Marshalltown, but low-income residents may face the biggest challenges to rebuild. Alliant Energy’s donation of $15,000 will kick off Mid-Iowa Community Action, Inc. (MICA)’s efforts to help these families recover.

MICA serves low- and limited-income families in Marshalltown. Immediately after the tornado, MICA staff and volunteers began to assess damage in the neighborhoods they serve, and seek donations for a humanitarian campaign to assist low- and limited-income households.

“A crisis situation like this has a disproportionate impact on low and limited-income families,” said Arlene McAtee, MICA’s executive director. “Alliant Energy’s gift is a show of support, both to these households and to Marshalltown at large. We are extremely grateful for this important partnership.”

Alliant Energy’s gift to MICA follows a $10,000 donation last week to the American Red Cross, also for disaster relief in Marshalltown.
