MESERVEY – A boil advisory for the city of Meservey in Cerro Gordo County has been issued after the system experienced a drop in water pressure.
Due to the potential for bacterial contamination, it is being recommended that the water be boiled before being used for drinking or cooking or that an alternative source such as bottled water be used until further notice.
The drop in water pressure occurred when a controller that operates the well and fills the water tower stopped working causing the level in the tower to drop. A drop in water pressure can allow bacteria to enter the system.
Two sets of water samples will be taken to determine whether the water is safe and when the advisory can be lifted.
Residents of Meservey are advised to bring all water to a boil, let it boil for one minute, and let it cool before using, or use bottled water. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, and food preparation until further notice. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water. The water may be used for bathing and other similar purposes.
