NORTHWOOD – A North Iowa woman accused of falsely claiming a prize at a Northwood casino says she is not guilty.
Carol Ann Flores, age 29, is facing a felony charge of gambling – false claim of winnings. This is in connection to an alleged incident at the Diamond Jo Casino in Northwood back in July of 2015. The Department of Criminal Investigations formally brought the charge in September of last year, leading to an arrest warrant.
Flores remained free until her arrest by Mason City police in April. Mason City police were called about a complaint of a disturbance on the afternoon of April 19. Officers responded to kids throwing water balloons at cars near Georgia Avenue and 1st Street NE. As an officer spoke with a woman at the scene about the complaint, it was determined that she was Flores and was wanted in Worth county.
Flores was able to post bond in May and was released from jail. She entered a not-guilty plea and a July trial was set, but then postponed by her public defender. No new trial date has been set.
