MASON CITY – A woman with a rap sheet was busted at a Mason City retailer for stealing.
Mason City police responded to a report of a theft at the Target store, 3450 4th Street SW, on May 30 at 4:16 PM. Officers arrived and after an investigation, arrested 53-year-old Melanie Gaye Seward of Belmond, Iowa.
Seward was transported to the county jail, where she remains held at this time on bond, awaiting a court date on June 10.
Seward – a convicted felon for first-degree theft – had been wanted on an arrest warrant out of Webster county since November of 2015, connected to earlier theft convictions. She has remained on probation in Webster county for stealing and had been accused of violating that probation a number of times. She has been caught stealing numerous times in various counties in Iowa, court records show.
