GRUNDY CENTER, IOWA – An inmate in the Grundy county, Iowa jail hung himself, officials disclosed Friday night.
On Thursday, January 28, 2016, shortly after 9 p.m., officials with the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office located an inmate that was unresponsive in a cell at the Grundy County Jail. Emergency procedures were initiated and the inmate was transported to the Grundy County Memorial Hospital, where the inmate was pronounced dead.
The Iowa Department of Public Safety’s (DPS) Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) conducted an investigation and identified the deceased as Jared Martin Slinker, 26, of Wellsburg, Iowa. Slinker was arrested on Tuesday, January 26, 2016, on an arrest warrant for Contempt of Court regarding a child endangerment charge in Grundy County.
An autopsy was conducted at the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner in Ankeny, Iowa, on January 29, 2016, and determined the death to be suicide by hanging. Toxicology results are still pending. No foul play is suspected.
