Ankeny woman pulls into path of motorcycle, two Northwood residents injured

logo-iowa-state-patrolWORTH COUNTY – Two Northwood residents were injured Thursday in a traffic accident.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, Thursday evening at about 5 PM on Highway 105 just east of Interstate 35, a vehicle driven by 58-year-old Charlotte Herzog of Ankeny was stopped on the shoulder in a 2008 Chevy HHR SUV. A second vehicle, driven by 47-year-old Mary Kalvig of Northwood, approached traveling east. Kalvig told investigators that Herzog turned her blinkers on to the right and then to the left before pulling onto the roadway and into the path of Kalvig, who was driving a 2008 Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

Kalvig and her passenger, 17-year-old Brandon Knutson of Northwood were both injured in the ensuing accident.

According to a social media post by Kalvig, she said she had only taken a passenger on her motorcycle twice, ever. She stated “someone pulled out in front of me. TOTALLY THEIR FAULT! Bad, bad broken bone!!” and that she needed stitches. She was transported to Mercy Hospital by Mason City ambulance.

Knutson also said “Please pray for my mom, she was getting back from picking me up when we got in a motorcycle accidient. My mom’s leg looked like,it was broke. I am fine.”

At least no one was killed. Why can’t people concentrate on driving when they’re behind the wheel. That is the only thing your supposed to be doing. Your in control of a 4 thousand pound killing machine, and that’s what will happen when you don’t pay attention. At least Kalvig was paying attention or it could have been worse.
