Man who held cops at bay during standoff pleads guilty (video)

MASON CITY – A man who ran into his apartment owned by a city councilwoman and refused to come out for two hours as he held off police in a standoff has pleaded guilty, and is right back at home.

On the evening of August 29, William Thomas Hester fled police and made his may to an apartment house owned by council woman Jean Marinos, located at 602 East State Street. Hester was sought on warrants for failing to pay child support, and made matters worse for himself by refusing to comply with police demands to surrender. He held up in an apartment there for two hours as police sought to arrest him on a warrant.

Finally, after 1 AM Sunday, August 30, police were able to take Hester into custody. He was brought out in cuffs, along with his girlfriend, 18-year-old Nicole Eljean Krueger. Hester was arrested on the warrant and then also charged with interference with official acts.

Hester pled guilty the very next day to interference with official acts. He was ordered to pay $397.50 in fines and court fees.

Police told NIT that “This incident does not qualify as a violation of the Nuisance Property or Nuisance Gatherings and Disorderly Premises city ordinances.”

Meet William Thomas Hester, who held police at bay for 2 hours last week in a standoff. He ran from officers and and hid out in an apartment house owned by city council woman Jean Marinos. She supported the city's nuisance ordinance, which holds property owners accountable for trouble at their properties. Up to three squad cars were there during that evening with officers seeking Hester on a warrant. He was eventually arrested but got out of jail and was right back in Jean's parking lot, clowning around, doing kicks, and laughing, as seen in this video from a few days later. Police told NIT that there was no nuisance ordinance violation at Marinos' apartment house in the standoff incident. He later pled guilty.
