DES MOINES – Thomas Jefferson and Andrew Jackson were slave owners, therefore, Iowa Democrats no longer want their names on an annual liberal dinner event.
Today, the Iowa Democratic Party’s Central Committee voted to being the process of re-naming the Jefferson-Jackson Dinner. The name will remain the same this year, however.
After “much debate and discussion”, party chairman Andy McGuire said, a vote was taken to change the name of the event. “This decision was not taken lightly,” he said in a news release.
“The vote today confirms that our party believes it is important to change the name of the dinner to align with the values of our modern day Democratic Party: inclusiveness, diversity an equality.”
A new name for the dinner has not yet been chosen.
“Iowa Democrats are proud that we are never afraid to move forward and modern,” McGuire continued.
Thomas Jefferson and Andrew Jackson are said to be the founders of the “modern” Democratic party, but bother owned slaves. Pressure has mounted in recent times to change the name of the fund-raising dinner to avoid the appearance of support for their slave-holding activities. Other states have also moved to change the name of the event.
Don’t forget Lincoln was given slaves as part of his marriage to Mary Todd. They were with them all through the administration although under a “free” term.
The democrats remind me of the cartoon animal farm. Changing history will do nothing for the present.

Every politician has done something that somebody doesn’t like, and how many years ago was this. Holy chitt, give it a break. How does something that happened over 200 years ago, really effect people today. Oh wait, I hate all Germans because one of them shot my father during the war.
