MASON CITY – NIACC sophomore point guard Al Davis has been selected as the ICCAC men’s basketball player of the week for the week of Jan. 5-10.
Davis scored 23 points with eight rebounds and eight assists to lead NIACC to a 75-67 victory over No. 9 Kirkwood in the conference opener for both teams on Jan. 10. It was the third time since the 1997-98 season (38 games) that NIACC beat Kirkwood in men’s basketball.
The last NIACC men’s player to earn league player of the week honors was Matthew Don for the week of Feb. 10-15, 2014.
In Saturday’s game, Davis moved into 10th place on NIACC’s all-time assist list with 224. Mickey Sisk (1997-99) ranks ninth on the all-time list with 227 assists.
Davis, who missed four games in December due to a sore back, averages 13.5 points per game, which ranks 11th in the ICCAC. He averages 6.6 assists per game, which leads the league.
NIACC (9-7 overall, 1-0 in ICCAC) returns to action Wednesday at No. 4 DMACC (15-3, 1-0).
