EDEN PRAIRIE, MN – ESPN has reported that Minnesota Vikings star running back Adrian Peterson will enter a plea to a lesser charge than the felony child-abuse charge he was facing and will not serve any jail time.

The Vikings deactivated Peterson before a September game against the Patriots after a warrant for his arrest was issued in Texas for felony injury to a child.

According to Peterson’s attorney, Rusty Hardin, “used the same kind of discipline with his child that he experienced as a child growing up in East Texas. Adrian has never hidden from what happened. He has cooperated fully with authorities and voluntarily testified before the grand jury for several hours. Adrian will address the charges with the same respect and responsiveness he has brought to this inquiry from its beginning.”

ESPN reported Tuesday that Peterson will enter a plea to one misdemeanor count of reckless assault, according to their source.

According to ESPN, Peterson’s plea deal was reporter earlier Tuesday by, which also reported that the plea will not include any references to family violence or violence against a minor.  If a judge accepts the plea, Peterson will be placed on probation, pay a $2,000 fine and perform 80 hours of community service, according to

Peterson, also in September, released a letter explaining the discipline he used upon his son, which was said to involve a stick or switch and left bruises on the boy’s body.

The league has indicated it will review the outcome of the case, and the Vikings remain mum on Peterson’s future with the team.
