Wanted Mason City jailbird violates parole once again

MASON CITY – A wanted Mason City man who has been in and out of prison for years was picked up by deputies and taken to jail this week.

David Ray Freie, age 51 with an address in the Gracious Estates neighborhood, had been wanted since on a parole violation report from the Iowa Department of Corrections. Freie was recently stopped by Iowa State patrol in Floyd county for driving while barred and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is being held on no bond after being taken to the Floyd/Cerro Gordo county border and transported by deputies to jail in Mason City.

Freie was last sent to prison in 2012 for stealing a car which police located him driving at the 900 block of North Eisenhower Avenue in June of that year. He was paroled in 2014. Before that trip to prison, Freie had previously been incarcerated in a state penitentiary for drunken driving while eluding police in a stolen motor vehicle while escaped from a correctional facility. He had escaped prison while incarcerated for other crimes he committed in 2006. Freie has prison terms dating back to the 1990’s.
