King cornered by dreamer in New Hampton (video)

NEW HAMPTON – At a town hall meeting in New Hampton today, Congressman Steve King abruptly cut off one of his constituents, a DREAMer who was in the middle of asking a question, telling her “you’re done.”

Monica Reyes, a resident of New Hampton, is part of a program King is trying to eliminate — Deffered Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA. Instead of answering Reyes’ question, King interrupted her twice, eventually saying:

“No, I’m going to respond to you now. You’re done. I asked you politely to stop. We’re going to go to another question.”

According to Ms. Reyes:

I grew up in New Hampton, Iowa and immigration is really important to our community. For us, it’s not about politics, it’s about families.

We had over 20 people attend the town hall today to tell Steve King that we support immigration reform. In fact, we had more people at the event than Steve King did. However, Steve King completely disregarded me as a human being at today’s meeting. He barely let me speak and he did not answer a single question of mine.

DACA is really important to Iowa. There are over 4,500 Iowans like me that can benefit from DACA.Steve King is trying to take it away without even having a conversation about it. He needs to compromise and stop blaming the influx of central American minors into the United States on DACA. He needs to have an open mind and listen to what other people have to say (especially immigrants that have a better insight). I stood up to him, and he showed what a tyrant he can be. Do we really want to let such a man represent Iowa?

Wow… She was being respectful and she asked her question and he refused to answer it…. Just show how not opened minded some people are to others..

People are forgetting though that we were all immigrants at one time. And most immigrants work for far less then minimum wage and are taken advantage of by people who make millions. They don’t all get hand outs.. They are working to and paying SOcial Secirity and taxes and they will never see that money back like us citizens will..

immigrants and illegals are 2 different things. An immigrant did it the legal way and illegal is self explanatory.

…ah, I am going to have to agree with most of the comments already listed here. You will never be able to make things “better” in the country you are “leaving”, by asking/demanding that another country “foot the bill” as an “ILLEGAL” immigrant in that/this country!

As far as your “tough” life in Mexico? I have a neighbor up the street in a similar situation.

Living in an abusive family and not having other family in your country is NOT justification to cross into America illegally so you can get free money from hard working taxpayers to support you..

You go to work in your country and change your country for the better. You do not come to another country and expect handouts.

Sorry

Clearly the illegal speaker in the video was only there to make a speech not ask a question.

King was not cornered, he was disrespected by an illegal immigrant.

The video shows that King conducted himself professionally. Ms. Reyes obviously showed no respect for all the other people in the room that wanted to as questions.

Great job Congressman Steve King! You handled that situation, perfectly.

No Ms. Reys DACA is NOT really important to Iowa. It is only important to the 4500 like you who benefit while millions of Iowans work there ass off to pay for children that are brought here illegally.

Reys said, “He needs to have an open mind and listen to what other people have to say (especially immigrants that have a better insight).”

How about the rest of us Iowan’s “insight” that see what you are doing is wrong and selfish?

You forced your way into America and that is…

“against the law”.

“Things that make you go HUMMM.” They are cutting thousands of soldiers from the military then they want the amnesty act.

Good point? The problem with programs like DACA is it encourages illegals to come to America.

While we can’t turn our backs on children we can make them responsible to make restitution once they are of legal age and require them to go back to their country of origin once they are adults. If they want citizenship then they should pay the taxpayers back for their upkeep while here.

Unrealistic? Maybe, but we have to find a way discourage illegal entry into America!

There is only 2 ways that I can see that will discourage illegals, 1 is that we as in our country is worse off than theirs or number 2, at the point of a gun. Arresting them and sending them back doesn’t work, putting them in our jails costs us a lot of money, I think you know where I am going with this. Now I am not saying that I want either one of them, I am saying those are the only 2 methods that I know would work.

I see a better way. Cut off their freebies. Once they stop getting handouts they will quit coming or get arrested for stealing and then put in a facility far away from the US other than their own country.

It’s called misery. When they are miserable enough they will stop repeating their behaviour.

Well, it worked on my kids. They changed for the better. :-))

What we are doing now sure ain’t working!
