MASON CITY – Senator Amanda Ragan has announced she will seek re-election to the Iowa State Senate in District 27.

District 27 includes Cerro Gordo County except the eastern towns of Dougherty, Plymouth, Portland and Rock Falls; all of Franklin County, and portions of Butler County, including the towns of Allison, Aredale, Bristow, Dumont, Clarksville and Greene.

“I’m running for re-election because I’m passionate about community service,” said Ragan. “Working for the people of North Iowa is a wonderful privilege. We’ve accomplished a great deal together, but there’s more to be done.”

“Recently, because Iowa Republicans and Democrats worked together, we made significant progress for Iowa schools, middle class families and Main Street businesses,” Ragan said. “We increased student achievement by reducing class sizes in our elementary schools and improving teacher training and innovation. We found a way to bring affordable health care to 150,000 working Iowans. We invested in worker training programs at our community colleges to fill skill gaps and put Iowans back to work. We cut property taxes to reduce the burdens on our small businesses without raising taxes for homeowners or farmers. These were all good, bi-partisan pieces of legislation—great ideas that came from working together at the State Capitol.”

“I’m holding legislative forums throughout District 27 to follow up on how this legislation is working and to gather ideas on how to further strengthen Iowa’s economy. To contact me, call me at home at (641) 424-0874 or email me at amanda.ragan@legis.iowa.gov.”

In addition to her legislative service, Ragan is the Executive Director of The Community Kitchen of North Iowa and Mason City Meals on Wheels.

Ragan is also a contributing member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Mason City Sunrise Rotary, Francis Lauer Youth Services Board of Directors, North Iowa Band Festival Committee, and the Iowa Commission on Volunteer Service.

A graduate of North Iowa Area Community College and Buena Vista University, Senator Ragan has two grown children and four grandchildren. She and her husband, Jim, live in Mason City.
